MURDER AT FANNYSIDE MUIR
CUMBERNAULD 1880

 

Thomas Anderson, Farmer, Langdales Farm, New Monklands, pleaded not guilty
to a charge of murdering Jane Lindsay, an outdoor worker, sometime residing at
Main Street, Cumbernauld. The charge bore that on 31st January last, at or near
a pool of water known as Lint hole, situated at a part of Fannyside Muir in the
Parish of Cumbernauld. The accused wickedly and feloniously attacked and
assaulted Jane Lindsay, the deceased, and compressed her throat by means of
a shawl of scarf, which he forcibly pulled or twisted and fastened tightly around
her neck, and threw of forced her head foremost into the pool of water and left
her with her head and shoulders immersed therein, with the result that he strangled
or suffocated her and she died immediately or soon thereafter.
