Cumbycritter asked Iqbal the story behind his pictures taken at a time when Cumbernauld as a newtown was perhaps in its infancy, or indeed some of the people in these pictures most certainly were.

''I had no direct connection with Cumbernauld but the fame of its city centre megastructure was such that as an architectural student I had to see it under construction. The other reason was work of achitectural firm of Gillespie Kidd & Coia from Glasgow. Their work is shown in my set of the buildings taken at the same time as my visit to Cumbernauld.
Since then, as a practicing architect I worked extensively in and around the new city of Milton Keynes, which has some similarities with Cumbernauld''
All the best.
Iqbal
